Notes on St. James’ Parish Church
The wood used for the pulpit, the overhead carvings leading to the pulpit and the rails to the west of the Chancel are all made of local mahogany. A grove of mahogany trees may be found in the yard of the church. A quick look at these trees makes it possible to make a cursory distinction between the wood in its raw state and the wood when it has been polished.
