1. The Great Litany

The Litany may be said in whole or in part.

Sections 2, 9 and 11 are always used, together with a selection of suffrages.

 2 Prayer of approach to God
O God the Father, creator of heaven and earth,
Have mercy upon us

O God the Son, redeemer of the world,

O God the Holy Spirit, advocate and guide,

O holy, blessed, and glorious Trinity three Persons in one God,
Have mercy upon us

3 Prayers for deliverance
Lord, remember not our offences, nor the offences of our forebears; spare us, good Lord, spare your people whom you have redeemed with your precious blood,
Spare us, good Lord

From all evil and wickedness; from sin; from the cunning assaults of the devil; from your wrath, and from everlasting condemnation,
Good Lord, deliver us

From all spiritual blindness; from pride, vanity, and hypocrisy; from envy, hatred, malice, and all uncharitableness,
Good Lord, deliver us

From fornication, adultery and all other disordered and sinful affections; from the deceits of the world and the snares of the devil,
Good Lord, deliver us

From all false doctrine, heresy, and schism; from hardness of heart, and from contempt of your word and commandment,
Good Lord, deliver us

From lightning, fire and hurricane; from earthquake, drought, and flood; from famine, plague, and pestilence,
Good Lord, deliver us

From all oppression, conspiracy, and rebellion; from violence, battle, and murder; and from dying suddenly and unprepared,
Good Lord, deliver us

4. Prayer recalling Christ's saving work.
By the mystery of your holy incarnation; by your birth, childhood, and obedience; by your baptism, fasting and temptation,
Good Lord, deliver us

By your ministry in word and work; by your mighty acts of power; by your proclamation of the kingdom,
Good Lord, deliver us

By your agony and sweat of blood; by your cross and passion; by your precious death and burial,
Good Lord, deliver us

By your mighty resurrection; by your glorious ascension; and by the coming of the Holy Spirit,
Good Lord, deliver us

In all times of trial and sorrow; in all times ofjoy andprosperity; in the hour of death and at the day ofjudgement,
Good Lord, deliver us

5. Prayers of Intercession.
Hear our prayers, O Lord our God,
Hear us, good Lord

6. For the Church.
Govern and direct your holy Church; fill it with love and truth; and grant it that unity which is your will,
Hear us, good Lord

Give us boldness to preach the gospel in all the world, and to make disciples of all nations,
Hear us, good Lord

Enlighten all bishops, priests, and deacons with true knowledge and understanding, that by their life and teaching they may proclaim your word,
Hear us, good Lord

Give your people grace to hear and receive your word, to find and follow their true vocation, and to bring forth the fruit of the Spirit,
Hear us, good Lord

Bring into the way of truth all who have erred and are deceived,
Hear us, good Lord

Strengthen those who stand; comfort and help the fainthearted;
raise up the fallen; and finally beat down Satan under our feet,
Hear us, good Lord

7. For the nations.
Guide the leaders of the nations into the way of justice and peace,
Hear us, good Lord

Enlighten and direct our rulers; grant that they may put their trust
in you, and seek only your honour and glory,
Hear us, good Lord

Grant wisdom and insight to all in authority, and to judges and magistrates the grace to administer justice with mercy,
Hear us, good Lord

Give to all nations peace, unity, and concord; and grant to all people freedom and dignity, food and shelter,
Hear us, good Lord

8. For all people according to their needs.
Teach us to use the resources of the earth to your glory, that all may share in your goodness and praise you for your loving kindness,
Hear us, good Lord

Enlighten with your spirit all who teach and all who learn,
Hear us, good Lord

Help and comfort the lonely and aged, the bereaved, the overworked, the exploited and the oppressed,
Hear us, good Lord

Support and encourage all who are in poverty, unemployment or distress; protect those whose work is dangerous, and keep in safety all who travel,
Hear us, good Lord

Keep fathers, mothers;and children united in their family life, and give them wisdom and strength in times of stress,
Hear us, good Lord

Heal the sick in mind and body; strengthen and preserve all women in childbirth and all young children,
Hear us, good Lord

Defend and provide for the widowed and the orphaned, all migrant workers and refugees, the homeless and victims of strife; have pity on prisoners and all who live in fear, l
Hear us, good Lord

Forgive our enemies, persecutors, and slanderers, and turn their hearts,
Hear us, good Lord

9. Concluding prayers.
Saviour of the world forgive our sins, known and unknown
things done and left undone
grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit
that we may amend our lives
according to your holy word.

10. The Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven,;
hallowed be your Name;
your kingdom come;
your will be done
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and forever. Amen.

11. A Prayer of St. Chrysostom.

Almighty God, you have given us grace to bring before you with one accord our common supplications, and you promise that when two or three are gathered together in your Name you will be in the midst of them. Fulfil now, O Lord the desires and petitions of your servants as may be most expedient for them, granting us in this world knowledge of your truth and in the world to come the fullness of eternal life. Amen.
