Notes on St. James’ Parish Church
The bell is engraved "Bless King William 1696". This bell was made at the same foundry as Big Ben and the Liberty Bell and actually predates the Liberty Bell by about 50 years. Like the Liberty Bell, it sustained a crack after it fell from the belfry in 1881. It was repaired but never rang true again. It was therefore placed at its present location as a momento.
